i found an excellent article on passion pit in issue #25 of under the radar. this album was written for Michael Angelakos' girlfriend-at-the-time as a belated valentine's present. he produced and recorded the album on his own. and as fate would have it, he is well on his way to a record deal and is currently touring the world. impressive.
"there's a way to write a love song differently...there are so many different kinds of love songs. and i think specifically with this album. this album is a lot about love and a lot about...finding the antidote to misery," says passion pit's michael angelakos. he then adds with a chuckle, "there's no reason why you shouldn't embrace love as an antidote to your problems when you are a depressed, miserable person."
i have been searching for this explanation of the harmonious relationship between love and misery for some time now. perfect timing for an album such as this.
listen here. better things is a favorite of mine.
